Its going to be all the ones announced from now on that will hurt, especially without a job :Lakitu:

This!!

I don't mind the price either...but the price in the midst of so many others, well, timing would be better. Now or later it isn't making a difference, I just don't like seeing CHUNK after CHUNK within a short amount of time. Also, I'm not sure if everyone preordered them both (as I did), but a 350.00 purchase is one thing, a 700.00 purchase is another. Seeing that all at once...makes me light-headed.

I'm certain no reason would appease a question like this, but...how about "Because?"

Seriously, there isn't much Zela stuff out there in terms of contemporary releases so I'd like to have the full range regardless of variations...minute as they may be. Considering I register all of my statues and have the same issue for each of them, I'd feel the collection wouldn't be complete if I had only say, number 18 for the regular edition...then 18 of the exclusive version went to someone else splitting the chances that we'd both have equal rights to the next statue with the same issue number.

I have the funds, I'm devoted to collecting Zelda stuff and pretty much only Zelda stuff as an active pursuant, so why not?

I suppose silver would be able to add some insight on this perspective as well considering he recently purchase both Zero Suit Samus statues...but I just had to. Hopefully that and the above reasoning will be a sufficient answer.

I should also note I'm only doing this for the Zelda statues. In regards to the Metroid and Sonic statues, I'll only be buying the Exclusives when available.

In my day to day life, I am the king of collecting and noone I know irl matches me, but then you go on the internet and find the most hardcore of hardcore collector sites and you are just another fish in the sea ;).

Anyway, atleast they can all be thought of as an investment since the price of each one has gone up except a few of them sheik(deflated), skull kid(about the same value), red/blue tunic(deflated for sure lol), and sonic(once this gets sold out I see it going up in price pretty fast and I am really surprised as to why this hasn't gotten sold out yet and if someone has an explanation please reply...1500 limited edition beautiful Sonic statue doesn't get sold out in over a year and it is at a decent price?)

I have mixed feelings as to whether Zant will grow in value because it is already at such a high price and I think the people who are interested in it have ordered it already. I am sure others will be willing to buy it once it gets sold out because they didn't have they money at the time, but I don't see them paying more than $350.

Yeah. I thought I was the junk until I met 'Ram and the rest of the crew. :punched:

Speaking of inflation (which is yet another awesome reason to be a collector), how has the original green-tunic Link been faring? I haven't seen any on Ebay.

Speaking to Sonic...I think you have a split here on fans that love him, and fans that feel they've been wronged by him. Perhaps that's why the merch is seeing this slow trickle of sales attachment. Things will change once Sonic 4 and Colors hits the market, both GREAT games!!

As for Zant, there was a low inventory warning that went into effect recently so it IS selling. Not to mention there are even fewer issues for Zant considering this is easily one of the largest and more detailed lines F4F has produced so far. I feel this one will sell out and will skyrocket because some folks simply won't realize how low an issue he is receiving (as is likely the case for the rest of the TP line).

As far as your investment stance is concerned...it's only an investment if there's intent to sell. I'd love to think I could sell these one day, but unless I'm in dire straits and need to pay for some life-saving surgical procedure...my son will be getting these come my last days on this earth. It's my job to ensure that my generations of family members down the line, know and appreciate the legacy...the LEGEND...of Zelda!!

I don't plan on selling anything anytime soon, but I have a problem with sinking money into something that loses value. I love my stuff :), but who knows what the future holds? For now everything is easy for me because I am 19 and in University being supported by my family. I also collect with my brother and while he is going into his freshman year of high school what happens once he graduates and moves on or if we split into different parts of the country. Just little things like that. I still have several years to think about these things so I am not worried, but if the collection became too much to deal with I would have to sell it and it would be nice to atleast get my money back for what I put in if not more. Because the opportunity costs for a University student who has sunk 1000s of dollars into a gaming collection is pretty high, but I do know this much; If I ever do sell my collection some of these things will not be for sale :).

Here's the thing... what if your kids don't want them? Think about your parents and what they collect. For example, say your mom collects old presidential candidate buttons. Sure you'd probably take the buttons because they belonged to her; but would you keep collecting them? Would you even keep them forever or sell them to another collector?

I'm not singling you out Yam. This goes to all of us who are planning to give them to our respective kids.

I'm not expecting them to continue with the collection, but to preserve them as part of my will and testament. Once I'm gone, who honestly knows what is going to happen come that day but you never know.

From my experience and I am sure many of you guys will have experienced the same thing, is that most people don't care what their parents collected.

If your mom collected old dolls and she put in her will for you to have them, what would you do? Would you keep them all, sell them all, or just keep one that was really special? If you sold it to another collector who was passionate you would be making someone very happy and in a way your mom's legacy would be going on and you would have a good sum of cash.

This, once we hit the bucket who really cares what our children do with our collections? Sure, it would be cool for them to take on the legacy, but I don't think any of us would want to push our children to do that, at least I know I wouldn't.

On the topic of what our parents collected, my mom collects blue and white pottery like vases, plates, etc.; my Dad collects shoes, watches, and hats; both of them together collect Disney and other pins. If they were to give me their collection I'd definitely keep it, I probably won't expand on it much, but I'll definitely keep them somewhere and tell the young'uns about them, but that's just me. We have a tradition in my household of passing things down, and that is something I will always uphold because with every item in the collection there's a story to be told about it.

I agree and disagree. Personally, I don't really care about most of the types of stuff previous generations collected. HOWEVER, when it comes to items that have ties with media, art, and literature, I think there will always be an interest.

Good literature and art are timeless. Case in point: Star Wars. Who here is actually old enough to have seen the original Star Wars in theaters? I'm willing to bet few, if any. But Star Wars has lasted through the generations. Star Wars collectables are being passed down, sometimes through family, sometimes through other, new generations who can appreciate what the original trilogy has to offer.

I think Zelda and many other games will be like Star Wars. I think that one day, certain video games will be discussed and analyzed in the same way literary classics and films are in universities today.

The merchandise we collect here is a little different than most of the doodads and whatnots of past generations. Plates, hats, shoes, etc. interest some people, but the emotional attachment is different for these kinds of “generic” items than it is for things that carry literary meaning.

Will our kids care about the video game merch we have so carefully preserved? Maybe. We can’t know for sure if they will appreciate the literary merits of this game or that. However, I’m willing to bet that there will always be someone, somewhere who will understand the historical value of preserving such artifacts for posterity.

When it comes down to it, we collectors are simply servants. We are the gatekeepers of things which, at our whims, could be lost and forgotten forever. Instead, we choose to allow future generations a glimpse into the past.

Most future generations will likely not care about such an opportunity. It doesn’t mean our efforts are wasted, however. Those who are genuinely interested and pursue knowledge of past things will be rewarded with the joy and emotion that make it worth our while to collect and preserve them in the first place.
