This game needs a dedicated topic! :O

I think this has become my favorite of the Wii U launch games. Like New Super Mario Bros. Wii before it, I'm going to be playing through the game the first time around with my boyfriend, so it'll probably take us a while to get through it due to our crazy schedules being out of sync. But still, what we've played so far has been such a blast. I am absolutely loving the Miiverse integration in this game, and I'm very grateful that my boyfriend is patient enough to wait for me to spend 20-30 minutes on a drawing every other level (another reason that it's going to take us forever to finish it!). XD

I'm really enjoying seeing Night's drawings pop up as I play, too! I can't wait for FireHawk to get her hands on this game, because if her Swapnotes are any indication, I can see some hilarious commentary going forward. :Bowserlaugh:

Who else has been playing? :D

Much love for this and the Miiverse integration. I love the difficulty and the challenge of finding the extras this time.

I'm sorry to say that you'll be waiting for quite a while, then, because the Wii U (and thus NSMBU) isn't high on my 'to get' list right now. :Wily: I appreciate the sentiment, though. :Nesspeace:

I am happy with New Super Mario bros. U. I love the diffiulty the level design and everything about this game. Sure the graphics and art style look abit same-y but the game looks and feels new and unique unlike New Super Mario Bros. 2. I love all the secrets and it was a blast going through the entire game. I just 100% completed story mode now I'm trying to get all gold medals in challenge mode. Which by the way I am loving Challenge mode and boost rush mode.

[Reveal] Spoiler:
Starworld returns by the way and so does the propellor and penguin suits. Warning: some of the starworld levels are abit difficult.

I'm loving the game too, especially the return of the connected world map and secret exits. I wish it was more like Super Mario World still, with even more secret exits and maybe some kind of indication that a level has one. I'm only on the fourth world though...

Challenges are awesome! I was trying to gold medal them all but damn are some tough.

Apparently, the DLC for this game will be an new game featuring just Luigi. They said that all the courses will be changed, so I assume that the game will still have the same overworld, just with different courses, a bit like a Master Quest version of NSMBU. I'm surprised at the scale of the DLC, and Luigi being the main character is always welcome!

It's like a whole new game with all new levels, but the same map? Definitely getting that, whatever that means. I mean, how can I turn down the Weegee?

I feel like they made this DLC just for me! :D

I wonder if this means that it's single player only, though? That would be kinda strange since I played the game all the way through with my boyfriend (...mostly so I could play as Luigi, but still!).

I am also looking forward to the DLC, my wiiU hasn't done anything since I finished NSMBU (actually this is the only game I have for it, nothing else has interested me yet) so can't wait for this.

How is the gameplay so far? Fantastic on par with SMG, better, or decent? I haven't gotten the game yet, so I wouldn't know.

Personally, I think it's the best of the New Super Mario Bros. series. The most innovative part of the experience was the Miiverse integration. There isn't too much "new" about the gameplay in the main game when compared to NSMBW (aside from a fun new power-up and the inclusion of Baby Yoshi and their abilities), however, what is there is highly refined with fun, memorable stages that take some of the best elements from SMB3, SMBW, and NSMBW and combine them in a wonderful way. It's also probably one of the more challenging games in the Mario series, and if anyone anyone thinks the main game is too easy, they've included challenge mode that's aimed at the most hardcore of Mario players (think of the extra modes from NSMB2 but with more variety).

While I don't know if anything can really ever compete with the classics, I'd say if you could only get one 2D Mario game in the NSMB series, this would be it. It's imaginative and highly polished, and the Miiverse integration really makes you feel like you're playing this game with a huge community who appreciate your successes and understand the pain of your failures, even if those players are on the other side of the world.

I don't know if I'd necessarily put it on the same level as SMG, though, since that game (and its sequel) both felt incredibly fresh, and this one is more like a "best of" compilation of some of the greatest elements of previous Mario 2D games. Still totally worth playing though, especially if you love to challenge yourself. Fans of speed running, 1-up chains, and other crazy 2D platforming challenges will probably be most impressed with the extras, but the main game is definitely solid and a ton of fun for players of all skill levels.

They updated the game to allow Wii U Pro Controller support. :content:

Thanks, Nintendo!

Finally got 5 stars on the main game and I really enjoyed it.

Just like the rest of the series, the level design is great and arguably better than the other entries in the 'New' series. I think what this one does better than others in the series is that it is a little more challenging the secret exits were a bit more creative than the previous entries.

My favorite aspect of the 'New' series is that although the main game is built in a similar fashion, they always add in a new component or mode that distinguishes each title. I really liked the Coin Rush mode of NSMB2, but I think the Challenge mode in this game takes the cake. What I love about it is the variety of challenges (5 categories), the vast number of challenges and the fact that they do get really challenging as you unlock more and more.

I didn't use Miiverse that much when playing this game, but it was always great to receive the comments and art of other players; especially your great drawings Soul!

Now onto New Super Luigi U!
